Advanced Terms
IAY (Average Intended Air Yards)
Per Next Gen Stats, “Air Yards is the vertical yards on a pass attempt at the moment the ball is caught in relation to the line of scrimmage. CAY shows the average Air Yards a passer throws on completions, and IAY shows the average Air Yards a passer throws on all attempts. This metric shows how far the ball is being thrown ‘downfield’. Air Yards is recorded as a negative value when the pass is behind the Line of Scrimmage. Additionally, Air Yards is calculated into the back of the end zone to better evaluate the true depth of the pass.â€
CP +/- (Completion Percentage Above Expectation)
Per Next Gen Stats, “A passer’s actual completion percentage compared to their Expected Completion Percentage.â€
Yards L4
Average Total yards from scrimmage per game, over last four games
WOPR
Per airyards.com and Josh Hermsmeyer, “WOPR is a weighted average that incorporates a player’s share of team targets and share of team air yards. The formula is WOPR = 1.5 × Target Market Share + 0.7 × Air Yards Market Shareâ€
Y/RR
Average yards per route run, over the last four games
TGT/RR
Average targets per route run, over the last four games
AVG RR – Average Routes Run
Average routes run per game, over the last four games
INT % – Interception Percentage
Interception percentage for opposing quarterback over the last year
Sack %
Sack percentage for opposing quarterback over the last year
RZ P% and RZ R% (Adjusted Red Zone Pass or Run Percentage)
Some teams skew much more heavily to the run or pass in the red zone. This metric can be helpful for identifying touchdown upside for different positions.
LEV (Leverage)
It is important to identify players that are both low owned, but also provide a ceiling. This is our proprietary metric to do just that on DraftKings and FanDuel. You can also use this score (higher the better) to provide potential late-swap choices which could help you fade the chalk and vault back up the leaderboard after a poor start. This is most useful for running backs, wide receivers, and tight ends.
